About Photography Franchises

Photography franchises are one type of franchise you can get into.  When you want to open your own business but are worried about starting from the bottom up, franchises are great options.  A franchise has the franchisor who grants the use of a business licence to the franchisee that runs the business.  Basically the franchisee decides they want to purchase the brand name and trademark of another company.  The franchisor allows this to happen.

A franchise is not an independent business.  The franchisee is going to run the business, but they are running on the operation manual and business design of the franchisor’s business.  Typically there is an agreement between the two people where the franchisee must follow the protocol, management, and store set up of the franchisor.

With a photography franchise you are purchasing the licence to a business that sells cameras, takes photos, and all other things to do with photography.  The franchisor is going to supply the products and service guide of the business.  For example if the photography business you are franchising does only children’s photography then that is what your manual and set up with cater to.

The reason you might want this type of setup is to get the strategic and successful business plan.  A business that is already set up in photography is going to have clientele, advertising, and a brand name in place.  Consumers will be able to recognise this brand, which means you already have consumers interested in your store. A good way to look at a photography franchise is to put the business in an area that already shops at the franchise, but would welcome a location closer to where they work, live, or dine out.

The franchisor will help set up the company by helping in the hiring process, setting up the store, training the management team, and even accounting.  The franchisee has to purchase this.  To do that there is an upfront fee to the photography franchisor.  There are also royalties which will be paid out over time.  The royalties are based on a percentage of the profits.  The better your store does the more royalties the franchisor will earn.

To obtain a photography franchise you will have to sign a franchise agreement that lays out the deal.  It will be explicit in what business protocol you will have to follow as well as the fees and royalties associated with the agreement.  Your business relationship could include more than one licence fee.  In fact it could mean that each year you renew your licence.

The franchisee is agreeing that they will hold up to the franchisor’s way of doing business.  They will not besmirch the name of the franchisor or try to run the business a different way.  For the franchisee this is a good thing.  You have the clientele built for the photography business and all you have to do is build a larger clientele.  You also get the logos, trademark, and name of the company to bring in clients.
